When Emily Woke Up Angry
Published in Hardcover by Barrons Juveniles (February, 1989)
Author: Riana Duncan
Average review score:

Great book to introduce dealing with angry feelings
When Emily Woke Up Angry is a great book that explores ways we can express our anger. Many children know when they feel angry but only know a few ways to express it. I shared this story as a flannel board story with a mixed age group of preschool children. After the story we tried out the different ways the animals expressed their anger. We then discussed what makes us feel better individually when we feel angry. Wonderful for exploring our feelings!

Wholly Cow! (Recollectibles)
Published in Hardcover by Abbeville Press, Inc. (June, 1988)
Authors: Emily Margolin Gwathmey and Niki Berg
Average review score:

wholly cow
I have a great deal of respect for the cow, I now find it is even more fascinating than I ever suspected. I can see why the cow is sacred in India, with such a divine anamial it should have respect. I never really gave much thought to all the famous cows and how much the cow gives to us in our every day life. This book has great visual and historic value. I also found a reference to one of my most beloved poems ,"Purple Cow" now that is an oldie but goody. I found this to be such a fun book for the cow lover of any age, I would like to give it as a gift ,or carry it in my leather store. I guess you know how I felt when I found it was out of print. The art is all great and covers so many aspects, the text is fun fun fun, it is my idea of a great coffee table book.

The Wicked Count (A Zebra Regency Romance)
Published in Paperback by Zebra Books (Mass Market) (May, 1990)
Author: Emily Maxwell
Average review score:

Wickedly Funny!
The heroine is very fond of reading trashy romance novels, and wishes that her respectable and responsible fiance would take a leaf from the fictional "Count Ruerdi" and be more romantic. The hero finds out about her wishes, and tries to satisfy them, with hilariously funny results. There are several laugh-out-loud moments in the book, and it makes for a funny, yet romantic story. Eventually, of course, the heroine realizes that there is more to love than wild, dangerous adventures(and that being locked up in a gothic castle with a ghost might not be as much fun as just reading about it), and appreciates the true romantic nature of her future spouse. Definitely a book for my keeper shelf. I wish this writer would write more books. I have enjoyed this one, and The Easter Disguise is great too.

The Wind Won't Know Me: A History of the Navajo-Hopi Land Dispute
Published in Paperback by Univ of Oklahoma Pr (Trd) (March, 1999)
Author: Emily Benedek
Average review score:

A Moving and Informative Book
I bought this book while I was driving through Northern Arizona and headed into the area described by the dispute. This book is a moving account of how the anglo practice of drawing borders and lines on the land has affected two ancient peoples. It also aids in showing Native Americans as the heterogeneous group that they really are. We (and I include myself in this group) have a tendency to look at Native Americans as a single group, at least within a single geographical region. The history of Hopi-Navajo interactions is an example of different peoples with different world views who were able to co-exist for generations before the formulation of artificial boundaries. We also see the pressures on traditional practicies by economic imperitives. I strongly reccommend this book for anyone interested in the recent history of Native Americans and the Southwest.

Woman As Healer
Published in Paperback by Shambhala Publications (March, 1991)
Authors: Jeanne Achterberg and Emily Hilburn Sell
Average review score:

Excellent well researched book on woman healers
Excellent well researched book on the roots and history of woman in medicine and healing. Jeanne Achterberg does an excellent job with a difficult subject. Most of the written documentation about women has been destroyed or misinterpreted by male scholars throughout history. One must be a thorough detective to sift through all of the documentation to find information on this subject. Her interpretations are fair and,I believe, totally valid. This book is for anyone who is a healer or works in the medical profession or those of us who understand the bias in research writen by white european males. To those of you who disparage such work, because of lack of evidence, I suggest you look toward your spirit, and contemplate the injustice of destroying the evidence of the past and then writing your own history to justify the power you hold.

Writing: Grammar, Usage, and Style (Cliffs Quick Review)
Published in Paperback by Cliffs Notes (May, 2001)
Authors: Jean Eggenschwiler and Emily Dotson Biggs
Average review score:

Excellent!
After being out of college for twenty years, I wanted to review basic grammar and punctuation. So, I ordered a copy of this book -- Writing: Grammar, Usage, and Style -- by Cliffs Quick Review. In a word, it was just what I was looking for, a clear and concise review of English grammar. Although the book is 240 pages long, it has just the right amount of detail and examples without overdoing it. One can read it from front to back (as I am doing) without getting too bogged-down in detail. Or, the work could serve as a ready reference guide to basic grammar and punctuation. It's not just for students, but for anyone who wants to improve their writing skills. Highly recommended!
